THE DAY Online Review

THE DAY is a fast paced, highly reflex intensive 3d moba-esque game brought to us faithfully by Reloaded Studios. Designed with fast paced play in mind, THE DAY is a whirlwind of action and color every time you load up a game. With multiple game modes to choose from with a sliding degree of competition, and over 25 characters to pick and choose from, THE DAY delivers a moba experience unlike anything else that has come before it.

In THE DAY, you are presented with two options for game modes, both of which are highly unique and enjoyable experiences in their own rights. First you have Resource Battle. In this game mode, you and your team are tasked with the job of gathering, defending, and utilizing resource nodes in order to gain more points than the other team. Points are awarded for kills, and for resources gathered. Next we’ve got Downtown. This game mode is closer to the classic moba experience that we all know and love. Take the objective, kill the bad guys, destroy the nexus, win. Pretty simple!

One of the aspect of THE DAY that really lends itself to its success is the degree of balance that Reloaded Studios has managed to implement into the game. With over 25 characters to choose from, with 5 classes over all, it would honestly not be shocking, especially for a game this early into release, to have some serious balance issues. Somehow, Reloaded Studios has managed to avoid this issue all together. Rarely have I had the pleasure of playing a game so well balanced, in essentially every aspect of its game play.

While THE DAY is undoubtedly a great game, I would be remiss if I did not mention the struggles that it has had to recently endure. Having apparently not met their sustainability requirements, two of their servers, the US and EU, were both recently closed down for good. Due to this setback, and a reported issue with personnel, Reloaded Studios has apparently been forced to cut their goals back a bit, and to make a more condensed, but “more fun” (their words) version of their original vision. Whether or not this will hamper THE DAY’s ability to grow into the game that it ought to become, is anyone’s guess. All I know is, that as of right now, THE DAY is an entertaining and visually appealing newcomer to the moba genre, who has he potentially to make some really huge waves if it manages to catch on.
