Star Trek Adversaries is Puppet Master Games’ impressive attempt at conjoining the CCG genre with that of something far larger than itself – Star Trek: and with over 300 universe inspired cards, I’d say they may have just pulled it off. In Star Trek Adversaries you are the one in control of your destiny. Play offline campaign modes set deep within the Star Trek universe, or play online against real players in intense, competitive based play – or, if fighting your friends isn’t your idea of fun, just team up with them and take on a campaign together! From the vast play options, to the huge cast of cards, Star Trek Adversaries does its job, and does it well. For a more well rounded and well inspired CCG, you’d be hard pressed to want to look anywhere else.

One of the beautiful aspects of Star Trek Adversaries, is that there is always someone to play with. Whether that someone is a real person (enemy or friend), a remarkable able minded AI, or just you yourself, entertaining and thought provoking gameplay is never further than a few clicks away. Boasting AI and standard campaigns, the option to compete and join up with your friends, and a robust leaderboard ranking system, Puppet Master Games offers something for just about everyone in, Star Trek Adversaries.

One issue that seems to pop up time and time again in Free to Play games is that of the dreaded “Pay to Win”. So often a potentially great game’s future is squandered by the greed of the money men behind the project, with game breaking microtransactions and skill boosts for the player with the largest credit card. Star Trek Adversaries, thankfully, has managed to avoid this issue all together. While Puppet Master Games does offer microtransactions, the currency in question is completely attainable for even a casual player. Now, will a whale with more zeros on his bank statement and a loose handle on money management have an advantage starting out? Of course he will. But you can catch up. And you can destroy him.

Puppet Master Games has managed to create not only a strong CCG in its own right, but a lovingly crafted representation of the Star Trek universe – one that will trigger within any fan that familiar sense of nostalgia and satisfaction upon booting up. If you’re a fan of the Star Trek franchise, then I would say that this game would not be something to miss. And even if you don’t have a deep and unbridled love for the characters, locations and ships present in this CCG: chances are – after giving Star Trek Adversaries a chance; you will!

A writer of fiction and lover of all things fantastical, Matthew has spent many of his days immersed in one created world or another, be they an MMO, traditional video game, or a work of literary fiction. Having been both an avid writer and video game lover for his entire life, the next logical step seemed to be, you guess it, writing about video games. And so here he is, doing that.
