Scions of Fate, or as it is known in Asia Yulgang: Balance of Power, is a free-to-play Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) developed by Mgame and published by Netgame. It is heavily based on the very popular Korean comic called Yulgang and is very successful in Asia.

The game’s story follows many of the events happening in the actual comic with a lot of characters appearing from time to time asking for or offering to help. There are 7 playable classes, all with their unique set of skills and abilities that can be upgraded once you reach certain levels. Character creation is not a memorable experience since there are very few available options; the only thing that actually changes is the appearance of your equipped gear.

Scions of Fate is a rather old game; compared to modern representatives of the genre, one can’t help but notice the outdated graphics. Visual and sound effects are simple and the characteristic artwork has a very distinct Asian feeling. On the other hand however, they manage to be functional and pretty. Combat is very easy to master; if you have ever played a MMORPG it will feel like a walk in the park.

There are two factions in the game, Order and Chaos and at level 35 you will be asked to choose a side; joining a guild (or House as it is called in the game) is imperative since many of the events happening in Scions of Fate are guild-related. There are also six different pets to obtain and train and each one has unique abilities that will assist you in your journey. Finally, the game features many different PVP modes which offer competitive play and rich rewards.

In conclusion, Scions of Fate is a game that offers a more casual approach on the genre. What is more, its whole story is based on an actual comic, something that, unless you have read it, will at many times confuse you. If you are looking for a less hardcore MMORPG experience, this is a game you should at least try.

It was back at 1996 when Theodoros bought his first Personal Computer and with it a copy of Shogun : Total War. That was the beginning of many sleepless nights of exploring the fantastic world of gaming. He calls himself an “expert” defender and that’s his favorite gameplay style but he will not hesitate to grab a shield and go forth to protect his team as a tank. So next time you adventure in Azeroth and see a shield bearing cow named Klaras, you have found our guy! He is also a great fan of Role Playing Games. From Icewind Dale to Neverwinter Nights and Skyrim, you name it, he has played it all! He is not your average casual gamer, he is a dedicated fan!
