Return of Warrior is a free-to-play Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) from Youxiland Digital. It is set in a fantasy world where two factions, Humans and Ak’Kan fight for supremacy. The game features 3D graphics and a unique combat system without target-lock.

The character creation process is quite interesting with options for haircut, hair color and face alterations; there are 14 available classes with distinct skills and abilities. Once your hero is created you are thrown into the game where you will have to find out what needs to be done all by yourself since there is no tutorial. That can be frustrating, especially in the beginning.

Return of Warrior features a rather basic story that only serves as a reason to take up quests in order to gain experience and level up your hero. Your skills are upgraded using skill points earned by reading skill books or as a reward from quest completion. The same goes for your abilities which are upgraded in specific trainers and work much like a profession; there are five common abilities which give permanent bonuses and help in questing and 8 professional ones which have three different tiers and further enhance your core stats.

Combat needs a lot of patience, especially in the beginning; the fact that there is no target lock is quite challenging and there will be many times when you will find yourself hitting nothing but air! When you finally master this element, the whole process is entertaining. Unfortunately, although the game uses 3D graphics with nicely detailed character models, battle effects are nothing really special and animation could be better.

PVP fans will find quite a challenge in Return of Warrior with a lot of modes, from duels and Guild Wars that take place once a week to Statue War, an event that takes place four times in a day and where players must capture and defend neutral statues. What is more, a Guild Master can build a Fortress which can be used as a re-spawning spot and can be further upgraded.

Return of Warrior is a fun game that has all the potential to stand out; unfortunately, its unique combat system is not very well tuned and its landscapes are very basically designed and look rather empty. Add the lack of a tutorial which surely frustrates beginners and you have a title that needs you to be very patient in order to manage to appreciate the gaming experience it offers.

It was back at 1996 when Theodoros bought his first Personal Computer and with it a copy of Shogun : Total War. That was the beginning of many sleepless nights of exploring the fantastic world of gaming. He calls himself an “expert” defender and that’s his favorite gameplay style but he will not hesitate to grab a shield and go forth to protect his team as a tank. So next time you adventure in Azeroth and see a shield bearing cow named Klaras, you have found our guy! He is also a great fan of Role Playing Games. From Icewind Dale to Neverwinter Nights and Skyrim, you name it, he has played it all! He is not your average casual gamer, he is a dedicated fan!
