Magic Duels is an online TCG by Wizards of the Coast as a digital adaptation of Magic the Gathering. This game is currently available for PC through Steam, Android and iOS devices and Playstation 4 as an exclusively online title, which mean you will be needing an internet connection at all times.

As every online card game, Magic Duels lets you create your own decks, collect cards by opening packs and duel with other players to collect even more. With the existence of daily quests and missions, you can acquire even more currency, making card collection even easier.

The game’s tutorial is mandatory and won’t let you skip any of it, making you get through all the missions even if you are a veteran MTG player. After that you can dive into Magic Duels story mode where you find more about the Planeswalkers and the lore of MTG as well as gain some extra cards. It would be a pity not to mention that the story mode offers amazing narration and beautiful graphics.

If competition is your way-to-go then the online duels will be your main feature. While this is a “classic Magic the Gathering duel” feature it can get you started with everything you need to know to dive into the real TCG. There is even a Two-Headed-Giant mode, if you want to drag a friend in and duel alongside each other.

What does Magic Duels lack though? For starters don’t expect any fancy animations and pop-ups like we see in games like Hearthstone. Magic Duels is a linear representation of MTG and thats about it. It’s UI seems a little clunky at times and the fact that it needs constant connection to the internet is a minus. Another thing you might find discouraging is the fact that you can get cards easily with real money, giving it a pay-to-win character.

Magic Duels is a pretty decent effort to get players familiar with the Magic the Gathering universe. It might need some more expansions for it to get to the level of more popular online card games, but all in all it’s a must play for everyone interested in Magic the Gathering.
