Gunbound is a free-to-play strategic turn based shooter developed and published by Softnyx. The game is a 2D skill based shooter clearly inspired by the “Worms” franchise, giving it a twist by adding abilities and different statistics to each vehicle. Gunbound is a fun free-to-play alternative to “Worms” even though it lacks some really basic elements to be considered complete.

On a first impression, Gunbound’s user interface seems unattractive and some time’s makes you feel lost but it serves the purpose of giving the game its almo RPG-ish character. You can create you own avatar which you can later costumize with new attire, giving you small stat boosts in health, speed etc.

What you have to do to start your game is pick a vehicle. There are 28 different ones, each equipped with its own weapons and stats. What you probably should consider given the game has 5 modes, is giving some time to the unranked modes of the game since its skill cap is really high and entering ranked matches could make it feel like a complete disaster. Aim and strategic positioning is too important for Gunbound, and most of its loyal players are almost flawless at those.

At first, the maps may seem ugly and you may feel that there is a lot going on without meaning, but give it some time and you will realise that all these hand drawn details are its beauty. On each map there are special weather effects which may help you or work to your disadvantage.

What is without doubt the biggest problem Gunbound has is its community. Even though there are very few people playing the game, most of them veterans with too much experience on their backs, there are strong cases of aimbots and hacking. Also since the game features an ingame chat, you will find out that people won’t be so friendly, probably cursing you whether you are good at aiming or not.

As a final verdict, Gunbound is a really cool strategy turn-based shooter which can give you lots of intense matches but will probably give you a hard time with its big difference in players’ skill range. If you are considering playing it with friends though it’s without question one really fun addition to its genre.
