Generations of Role Playing Game (RPG) lovers have been brought up with the various realizations of the Dungeons and Dragons(or DnD) franchise; luckily for them, Turbine published in 2006 a free-to-play Massive Multiplayer Online (MMO) version called Dungeons and Dragons Online (or DDO) which is heavily inspired from the DnD universe.

One of the best features of the game is the character creation process; pick one of the nine available races, each with its unique background story, characteristics and bonuses and proceed to the fine-tuning of the facial and body appearance. It’s a lengthy and meticulous system but the result is a hero that looks like no other. After that you need to choose one of the fourteen classes, allocate stats and skills, name your hero and you are ready!

The tutorial takes place on Korthos Island and is a series of quests that will introduce you to the main story and teach you the very basics; when you’re done you will be transported to the city of Stromreach, the central location of the game. From there you will set out on a magnificent journey that will have you explore a colorful vivid world, fight against hordes of monsters and clear dark, mysterious dungeons.

Combat is the next strong feature of DDO. A click of your mouse represents a swing of your weapon; depending on your class, race and weapon type, the game will roll a die and if the number that comes, added to your damage modifier, exceeds your opponents’ Armor Class, then you have landed a hit. What is more, you have to move constantly to dodge enemy attacks and strategically use your set of skills to emerge victorious.

Finally, the world of DDO is a cruel place to travel alone; joining an Alliance will help you find assistance in entering tough dungeons and completing group quests. For more fun, try playing together with two or three real-life friends! This is a game that captures perfectly the spirit of Dungeons and Dragons and it’s a must-play for every RPG fan.

It was back at 1996 when Theodoros bought his first Personal Computer and with it a copy of Shogun : Total War. That was the beginning of many sleepless nights of exploring the fantastic world of gaming. He calls himself an “expert” defender and that’s his favorite gameplay style but he will not hesitate to grab a shield and go forth to protect his team as a tank. So next time you adventure in Azeroth and see a shield bearing cow named Klaras, you have found our guy! He is also a great fan of Role Playing Games. From Icewind Dale to Neverwinter Nights and Skyrim, you name it, he has played it all! He is not your average casual gamer, he is a dedicated fan!
