Dogs of War Online is a free to play tactical turn based strategy game that was developed and published by Cyanide Studio in February 2014. It is based on the well-known miniature board game Confrontation. The game takes place in the world of Aarklash that is split into three alliances: The Menders of Darkness, The Paths of Destiny and The Ways of Light. In each one of them there are three total factions to choose from but since the game is still in beta only one of each is available at the moment.

There are over fifty four units available that allow a variety of company combinations and for deeper playstyle customization. The company is comprised of units and each one of them has talents that are unlocked by gaining experience in battle.

There are missions available that are completed by sending a unit to them and they take real time to complete. The unit is unavailable for this time and it might also return damaged. However, the rewards are worth the time they require to complete. There is an in game store that you buy the in game currency named cyans with real life money in order to avoid grinding. Fortunately, the game is not pay to win as players can gain everything offered in the store simply by playing.

There are three types of PvP: Death Match mode, Elimination mode and King of the Hill. The bad point of the game is the fact that it has been in beta for quite a while now and even though the game is available to play the updates are sporadic and there aren’t many players online to play against. At this point it is unknown if the development is ongoing but the game is quite fun to play. I would suggest it if you enjoy games like Heroes of Might and Magic and give it a try.

Growing up I had the luck to encounter the art of video games at a very young age in South Africa in 1990. I was captivated from the first moment I played video games from the educational math games at school to the purely entertaining video games at home. This love cultivated in studying Audio and Visual Arts, where I created the interactive audiovisual play in the form of a video game titled "The Life of Death". Over the last few years I have also been a videogame journalist as a hobby. Recently, I completed my Postgraduate studies in Games Art and Design at the University of Hertfordshire. My goal is to get into the video games industry and be a part of the creation process of video games.
