Blacklight: Retribution is the free-to-play, First Person Shooter (FPS), action Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) from Perfect World Entertainment and Hardsuit Labs. It’s a traditional representative of the genre with some well-thought ideas which really change gameplay.

Upon starting the game you will see a number of menus; experienced players can find a server and jump right into an existing game, newcomers can take the small, but helpful, tutorial or you can choose to take a training session. Blacklight: Retribution features detailed 3D graphics with a futuristic, schi-fi feel, excellent animation and very good visual and sound effects. Maps are well-designed with good variety and game modes are what one would expect from a title of the genre, namely Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and others.

So what’s special about this game? First of all, the HRV System; this is an ability available to all players that allows seeing others through walls! It only lasts for a few seconds and you are completely defenseless when using it but when correctly employed, it can really change the odds on the battlefield! Next, when performing certain feats in battle, you earn Combat Points (CP) which can be used to purchase items from the various depots scattered around the map. Depots contain healthkits, ammo, rocket launchers and the fearsome Hardsuit, a controllable mechanized Harbinger of Death capable of dealing huge amounts of damage while in the same time being able of taking unbelievable levels of punishment.

Finally, Blacklight: Retribution offers an amazing plethora of options when it comes to weapon customization; depending on your level, you can buy (or even better rent for a number of days) a base weapon and from then on you can change almost anything! Muzzle, scope, barrel, magazine, all of them can be altered; you can also give your weapon a new name and a unique appearance by using a special camouflage!

In conclusion, Blacklight: Retribution doesn’t invent the wheel but brings some fresh and fun ideas to the table and in the same time it does what you would expect from a title of the genre flawlessly. It’s fun, addictive and good-looking, a game you should absolutely try!

It was back at 1996 when Theodoros bought his first Personal Computer and with it a copy of Shogun : Total War. That was the beginning of many sleepless nights of exploring the fantastic world of gaming. He calls himself an “expert” defender and that’s his favorite gameplay style but he will not hesitate to grab a shield and go forth to protect his team as a tank. So next time you adventure in Azeroth and see a shield bearing cow named Klaras, you have found our guy! He is also a great fan of Role Playing Games. From Icewind Dale to Neverwinter Nights and Skyrim, you name it, he has played it all! He is not your average casual gamer, he is a dedicated fan!
