Lineage 2 Review

Lineage 2 is a free to play 3D MMORPG, by NCSoft. As one of the most well-known and acclaimed MMORPGs to date and a great successor of the original Lineage that helped to shape what the genre is all about today,  Lineage 2 is an epic online game experience.

Having utilized multiple content updates, today’s game form is a breathtaking one. Based on the 2012’s “Goddess of Destruction” and “Path of Awakening” updates, Lineage 2 offers a unique, totally free and open fantasy game world that waits to be explored, allowing at the same time players, to rapidly progress on their way towards their destiny. The game actually is a prequel of the first Lineage, evolving 150 years earlier, set up in a war-torn land in which three kingdoms fiercely fight for power and dominance.

Putting a strong emphasis on PVP elements, the story unravels in an enormous open land where players will have the opportunity to experience large-scale, server-wide conflicts, complete quests, defend their regions, expand their territory control, fight with magical beasts and unite their powers with other online players to form parties or clans. You will choose one of the seven available races and select your class. By selecting to be Human, Elf, Dark Elf, Orc, Dwarf, Kamael or Ertheia you will choose your path and gain access to a unique set of class abilities. In Lineage 2, you will find various pets and mounts to train and make them powerful companions, but you will also get the chance to select other subclasses, after reaching the higher levels; and experience an advanced combat system, which includes real time tactical decision making.

Through combat, you will gain experience and skill points and be able to level up your character. However, to come out victorious from battles you will need to learn how to use and combine your skills, spells, items and equipment in an effective way to inflict the maximum damage to your enemies and protect yourself. For players that want to access special items to enhance their experience, it should be noted that there is an in-game store available, which includes various cosmetic item collections or subscription-based “Prestige Packs” containing multiple powerful components and providing additional valuable rewards.

The user interface is simple and not as functional comparing to other modern MMORPGs and the graphics seem to be held back by the years-old graphics engine. If you manage to overcome these points, keeping in mind that this is still one of the oldest MMORPGs around launched back in 2003, then you will feel overwhelmed by the many beautiful elements and the regular content updates that still manage to breathe life into the game.
